A pretty kitchen wall accessory is one of the best eye pleasure that you can design yourself. This is a simple yet chic addition and provides storing space as well. It is made from reclaimed wooden pallets which makes this an Eco-friendly mini adventure. This can be used to put up your pickles, your recipe books and magazines, glasses, juices or just about anything that you fancy. Colorful baubles adds life and matches well with the aged pallet wood to create a cozy statement.
You can go for a loner shelf or put up a couple of them. They make one of the least intrusive pieces of furniture as these shelves are quite flat and friendly.
Let’s get our stuff out and make a pallet kitchen shelf to welcome your guests this spring. You will not be needing any elaborate equipment, just a few things lying around.
Material needed:
- A pallet of course
- Polish or wood stain (transparent)
- Saw or electric cutter
- Sand paper or sand machine
- Nails and screws
- Shelf supports
What you need to do:
The very first step is getting a pallet which is good quality and bug free. You would not want the DIY pallet shelf to be the cause of wood eating pretty bugs. Once you have given it a once over a mulled over the fact that you have a good piece in your hand, it is time to get to work.
This shelf is made out of the top or bottom of the pallet. For this one, we will go for bottom part. Draw a straight line to make it easy for sawing or cutting. Cut the whole lower part so that you have a cuboid shaped box. Now you have the main part in your hand which is the shelf itself.
Check if the shelf does not have any loose nails or it does not need any fixing. You do not want the bottom giving way to spill all your content.
At this stage you may decide you like the plain look of the wood and do not want to alter it. If this is so, just simply give the wood a fine whetting keeping your focus on the edges. If you want to stain or polish it, give it a proper sanding.
Now you are ready to stain your wood if you want. If the wood of your pallet has a smart look, just give it a transparent stain to give it a nice finished touch.
Once dry, decide which wall you will honor with your DIY kitchen pallet shelf and mount it up. For a strong hold, place a couple shelf support.
You are all ready to put up some lovely pickle collection, books or anything you want to. Step back and enjoy the effect your talent has crafted.
